1989 Batman was the biggest film of 1989
it is very flawed:
plot/story (not helped by the 1989 wga strike)
characterisation and screentime of batman
action (there were apparently reshoots to add more as Burton had resisted depicting Batman fighting)
but its visual and dynamic quality surpasses all of this, it's like a more successful Blade Runner
