>The Night of the Hunter
Incredible photography. Incredible performances. Something happens about a third of the way through this film that made my jaw drop and I couldn't believe how wrong I was about what this movie was and where it was going. Especially given the time it was made. A real treasure.
>Hiroshima Mon Amour
Well, Last Year at Marienbad isn't here so I'll go with Alain Resnais' #2 classic. Visual poetry that really pushes you to understand film as a visual medium.
>George Washington
David Gordon Green! Come back to making good movies. We need you.
>Barry Lyndon
Saw a 35mm print of this a few years ago in Chicago and could not believe how beautiful it looks so the BluRay will be a nice upgrade from DVD. Bizarrely brisk film for a 3 hour long Kubrick picture. But then again, it's Kubrick. You're never going wrong with picking Kubrick.
