Can't say I'm particularly thrilled at this development. However, the author did this type of thing better than damn near every other mangaka simply because in other manga, when a girl does this, it feels forced and OOC and a way to pad chapter/page count.
Saki doing this feels very in-character for her. This line of thinking was brought onto her by Kanon's mother. This is important because not only is Kanon's mother a mentor to Saki and thus Saki is more inclined to listen to, and take on board with what she has to say, but Saki also has a serious tendency to get into her own head a lot. Then combine that with Saki's desire to protect herself from her own feelings for Kanon, and this is the result you get.
So honestly? Really well done from the author. The Moon on a Rainy Night has done it again. 40 chapters in and there's maybe one or two chapters that were less than good-to-great. Incredible consistency. Really rare for a yuri manga to have 40 chapters with a clear narrative and not have any really bad fuck ups from the author.
