The player can believe what he wants, but the prophecy comes true regardless of his beliefs. You unironically have a 'media literacy' failure here; and not in interpretation but in literal reading. The question isn't whether or not the prophecy is true--it is. The question is whether or not (You) made it so, or it was controlled by a more powerful entity, and if (You) are the Nerevar reborn or not. If (You) had failed, someone else would've fulfilled the prophecy. It was always going to become true.
