Because of relativity. From the perspective of something travelling at the speed of light, the transportation will be instantaneous, you never "travel" you simply teleport (but everything else appears to have aged). From something travelling at almost the speed of light (99.9999999%), anything going 100% of the speed of light will not appear to be going a few meters/second faster, it will appear to be going infinitely faster. It is not that it is actually going much faster from the perspective of a stationary 3rd party observer but the perceptions of time are distorted for those at relativistic speeds. It requires exponentially more energy to go from 99 to 99.9 and 99.99, and infinite energy (IE impossible) for anything with mass to go 100%
