That's usually the problem, yeah. Social interaction is a part of coming together to like <thing> together, but bad actors make it about the social side almost exclusively, and the fans eat it up because monkey brain thrives on drama. Doesn't help that online fandoms are often full of teenagers with nobody to rein them in.
