Japan didn't know about Succubi at first, she was designed as a vampire like Demitri but Capcom USA suggested a succubus instead, and that lead to her characterization/powerset being more fueled on "excitement" than life energy gained from sex, so she can literally feed on the thrill of the fight. Also all the characters who have different names in different regions started out as the western names as all of the cast's names were suggested by Capcom USA, and the Japan-only ones were changed for that market.
