I have worked for studios like Gearbox, Supermassive Games, Firesprite LTD, THQ Nordic etc, and in my experience, depending on the type of project you're working on, the QA team is typically very well versed in the technical language of development because they have to be in order to be a useful QA department. I highly agree that this varies a lot though, I have also seen QA teams that merely function as bug sniffing hounds.

My point is that claiming you're a gamedev because you worked in QA is 100% valid when you work for someone like Blizzard, on projects like WOW. I'd never imagine that the wow QA team is anything but well versed in dev shit, due to the nature of a game like wow.

I can't stand piratesoftware, he's pedantic and self absorbed, but I just wanted to share my experience on this specific thing.
