I'm a hobbyist translator and yes, I skip anything with a MTL for several reasons
Most people will not be willing to give that game another try except for a few anti AI purists.
I could be robbing the dev of releasing an official translation on their own
I could be working on other stuff that hasn't been touched
etc.
Unless there's some monetary incentive there's hardly any reason to retranslate something that was already done with AI
