K Rool is the only enduring DK villain, even getting a Smash presence.
They're clearly cognizant of his relationship of DK to Mario as a property.
He's in the Mario movie, he's very uniquely been redesigned for Kart World and Bananza.
They're developing a plot around long lost Mario/DK character Pauline who is intimately integrated into DK's history.
I'm preparted to be disappointed.
But this game has so many references to even obscure DK properties and history, it's becoming absurd to imagine they've callously thrown the past out the window just to twist and coerce it into a new story.
It really seems like they want DK to be important again.
They're giving him an Odyssey-scale entry that brings back his primary villain while integrating it with DK's past.
Again and again and again.
