Besides Thrawn (who is almost a completely different character) the entire cast are all FIloni's OCs and the plot focuses on his own Mortis, Nightsister, and new galaxy lore. It's Filoni having freedom to do whatever he wants. He might even try to retcon the sequel trilogy with it.
