It would make sense for Gaster to try to set up events accordingly (driving Spamton and Jevil nuts so the Player seeks out the Shadow Crystals, wording the Prophecy in such a way that it can be interpreted differently, possibly being the one to make Dess into the Knight given that he has some relation to the Shelter in order to set up the Prophecy (though we're really stretching into headcanon territory)
