King K Rool has that sort of Aku appeal where he manages to seamlessly slip between being a genuine threat that ups the stakes but also just a really funny goofy git. His perfect design helps sell that to between being a giant crocodile with a bloodshot eye but also the fatness, the fake golden belly and changing outfits also sell the sillyness of his personality. DK 64 also showcases it by how in the first half he's this threatening presence but in the Final boss he's an utter showboating goober. The cartoon also helped since Benedict Campbell just oozes charm in his performance on that show.
