You could sub in Bowser in Bananza and it makes no difference. Maybe it's my nostalgia clouding my judgment but I don't think K. Rool was always this generic. I didn't take him as a I WILL RULE THE WORLD type villain. You say he has a boring design but his portrayal is boring too.
