If you haven't played Mega Man ZX, they go more into how the whole "carbon" thing started. It's shown that by that point reploids were required to have limited life spans and most humans had extensive cybernetic upgrades. Aside from reploids having a mark on their foreheads, you can't really tell the difference between them and humans.
