It was a great game that made me feel like I was a kid playing SM64 for the first time again, on top of which it had an unmatched level of polish and soul that had been missing from Nintendo games for ages. NSMB and 3DW are just basic barebones Mario games that don't evoke any emotion. I don't see how you can look at NDC Festival and say it didn't make a lasting impression. They literally brought back Pauline as a mainstay Mario character, made singing a central mechanic in Bananza, and brought back New Donk City because of how great an impact this one single segment made. Bananza has Pauline as a second lead character singing emotional vocal songs all thanks to this one 2 minute segment. There's nothing in all of 64, Sunshine, 3D World, or Galaxy that even approaches the level of the NDC Festival in terms of pure, genuine soul. I would even argue there's nothing in ANY Nintendo franchise that approaches this moment until maybe Bananza, which is obviously taking its inspiration directly from this moment.
