If the dog family in snowdin is anything to go by, it's a shared custody that is honestly not that bad. The dominant monster in the mixture is something only shown with the Snowdrake fellas since they got to keep Snowy's mom, but who's to say that amalgamates don't just walk around and visit their different relatives, it's less of an extended family and more "woo, more friends".
