I've never written for IGN or Gamespot but I know people who have. Fun fact: IGN makes their writers go out of the way to dumb down their reviews as much as possible. A friend of mine wrote an article for them a couple years ago and almost any word above a 5th grade reading level was edited out so that they could "appeal to as much of their base as possible." So even if IGN reviews aren't paid for, their worthless for other reasons.
