I think that's a perfectly fine interpretation of the scene. To me it's more that the chair isn't the end-all-be-all of Olivia's identity, and that she is free to make decisions about herself (i.e. choosing to work hard to stand for their dance) without it being a big deal to her. Again it's been a while since I've played the game so I guess one's interpretation of the scene depends a lot on how others respond to it and the language used.
