That's the actual game, though. The boss is just the reward at the end of the level, the level is the game. Mastering the boss run so you turn up at his door with the bulk of your resources still intact is an intended part of the experience and learning curve. Just because ER finalized the genre's transformation into a bossrush simulator doesn't mean it has to be like that, let alone that the games are better like this.
