What could have been way more authentic to the story and in line with Olivia's personality is her calling Inco over one time, confiding in him and telling that she wants this. IF at this point Inco says she doesn't need to do it for him to love her, but she assures him it's not about that, then it's already much more impactful. They can have cutesy scenes together trying the dance, and the same scene can still happen at the dance except it's now earned. They can still discuss it after, but that discussion is now about some crazy thing they pulled off together, with the emphasis being on them doing this together. Inco didn't baby Olivia, he accepted her wanting to do it even if it's rough.
