The ultimate "Battlefield" Experience I want is a Warhammer 40k clone. Which is essentially BF2142 with some tweaks.
Copy Donkey Kong Bananza for destruction. Fully destructible world with the ability to tunnel and change the earth itself, but have sci fi metal that can't be destroyed to allow for some structural bones to the world.
Massive destruction + crazy WH40K inspired firepower = tons of fun for both melee and vehicle combat. You also bring in 3 races, Starcraft Style so that the team you choose is actually wholly unique for that match.
Loop in more interesting melee options. Mixing the use of physical shields and massive power swords with flag pushes could be really fun. Blocking a tank missile with your shield as a muscle bound alien could be nice. Hacking flag cappers into chunks with your laser sword would be fun too.
Ultimately Battlefield games were at their best when you felt like you were committed to a large conflict and there was enough imbalance for amazing runs as infantry or using a vehicle, but enough balance to keep it in check. The XP grind should be deeply minimized or removed entirely because it's already hard enough to balance these games and it gets worse when you have no idea how overpowered each player will be based on their level.
Return to focusing on creative wide scale warfare simulation in a fun setting and forget the Microtransaction addiction loop gameplay of the later series entries.
