I unironically believe FF2 is a better game than FF6 and I would gladly recommend the former over the latter.
FF6's characters arr pray same with shallow non-gameplay gimmicks. The fact that brain dead tendies eat that shit up as """game design""" is mind-blowing to me. Furthermore the magicite system is anti-fun ass cancer.
Conversely, FF2's skill system does at least allow you to set up a varied party. The game is genuinely very funny at times, both with its story and mechanics. The fact that a major character sacrifices himself to give you the Ultima spell, only for the spell to do zero damage due to a bug? Hilarious. Also, FF2's story covered subject matter that was ACTUALLY ambitious for its time-- so ambitious that it goes overboard into hilarity. But it's good, worthwhile entertainment nonetheless.
