He's ultra talented and an incredible genius. Imagine all the skills early-mid Shippuuden Naruto has and put it all into him when he was still in the Ninja Academy. He's not as brash as younger Naruto was, but he's still rambunctious, and a bit spoiled. He's a bit bitter too because Naruto's kind of an absent father thanks to his kage duties, so he idolizes Sasuke, who he sees as a cool role model and someone way stronger than his deadbeat dad.
Obviously that changes and he's completely changed after the timeskip, where he's become a no-nonsense character.
