Those UIs work better in the more square aspect ratios, they suck in widescreen.
Besides, overwhelming UIs like that were mostly there to reduce the render window size during the days when 3D was hard to do, they weren't doing it just to fill the screen with "immersive" controls and stats, they did it for performance reasons.
Peak sovl though.
