The original Lionhead guys are long gone anyway. When they had the chance to fund Fable 4, they forced Lionhead to work on the vaporware Project Milo and the terrible Fable: The Journey to try and boost the Kinect. They wanted that tasty Wii money, thinking that the Kinect would sell just like the Wii did (which was a retarded thing to think). Then they canned Lionhead when their projects all sold poorly, cutting their losses on the buyout and just shelving the Fable brand until they decided to use it later.
In your examples, it'd be more like if Nintendo drove Game Freak out of business by having them make non-pokemon games, and then handed Pokemon to someone later. Still retarded, but at least the reuse of the brand later makes some sense. I don't think Fable 4 is gonna be good though. I predict a complete failure to recapture the humor.
