Wii/DS era is Zoomer's formative years.
You think that defines Nintendo, but to everybody else it was one of the most boring and parental versions of the company ever, always talking down to you like you didn't understand anything, and even the games treating you like a toddler asking you to take breaks every 15 minutes or explaining what's right in front of you with characters like Fi or that fucking suitcase in Mario & Luigi Dream Team.
Iwata isn't Nintendo. He led them in their years of innovative gimmicks and I love the Nintendo DS, but the reason I love it is only barely because of Nintendo First Party content, but what third parties came up with for Dual Screen ideas and Touch Screen stuff, like Sonic Rush, Hotel Dusk, or Madworld.
The current version of Nintendo strangely reminds me of Gameboy era Nintendo. I kept thinking "gameboy" when I was playing DK Bananza. I can't quite explain it but it's refreshing to see Nintendo just do different unexpected things lately.
