Literally this. People lost the context by today, but Nintendo WAS the premier publisher at one point. The whole "Nintendo Seal of Approval" fiasco was because Nintendo had dominance with the NES, so essentially they were the Steam of the 80s and 90s, but then Sega challenged that, like Epic games.
They had all the most cutting edge and impressive console games for a long time, and then N64 held up in hardware/performance but the weird controller and Cartridge limits fucked them, on top of other publishers getting larger and becoming sick of Nintendo thinking of themselves as the Market Leader.
But they were the Market Leader once, and it sure wasn't like that under Iwata.
