$600 in 2006 was like $1200 today. Also it was a year late to the market, and for $600 you could get both a 360 and a Wii, both which had a ton more & better games. And at least the Wii didn't suffer from constant breakdowns, and at least Microsoft kept replacing your console for free if it did broke down - PS3 broke down as often as the 360, probably more, but had worse warranty support.
