They're really not. I replayed those three since they're the only ones that work on my PSP for travel and they're all quite dated.
SNES is fairly bare, half the game you can't even really do any farming. Social mechanics are light and focused entirely around the girls. Farming and ranching are the only two real activities you can do with foraging in the mountain cave and fishing being fallbacks incase you run out of money somehow.
64 and GBA are better with more expressive NPCs and more things to do especially on the ranch, but even they don't have as fleshed out of world as SDV. Even if I like 64's characters more than SDV, they're just not as detailed as it. Furthermore, 64's timer for days is pretty short.
I picked up SNES HM in 2000 and 64 a little after when I got an N64, I grew up playing them and really liked them. SDV is a superior game though, being one of the few games that actually eclipses the source material it's based off of mostly because Natsume doesn't care and the original devs can't innovate anymore.
