Some of the weapon designs from this series lives rentfree and it pains me that you will never see them outside of it. You have exceptions like the Duplet in Fallout but stuff like the Azbats, Bastard, Uboinik and the clockwork chaingun will never see the light of day. Whether that's from the convoluted animations or the mechanics involved with their operation. I hate that Exodus ended up dropping a lot of it by the end and it felt like every game was trying to top itself. The shooting range in Last Light had the greatest variety that you could use without limitations to compensate for the lackluster action sequence in the already linear narrative.
My major problem with the series is you have all this cool shit and the potential for more but you are stuck playing through the same scripted shit on repeat with the moral point system to boot. If you took the entirety of the concept and opened it up with the ability to traverse the lines and fight the various factions you would have a compelling idea on your hands. Like an underground version of Freeplay Stalker wearing a Metro skin. They already proved it was possible with the Kshatriya DLC where you work for Hanza as a no name scrounging around for money.
You can do a similar thing with alternate starts and factions based on where on the line you decide to jump in from. Larp as a member of the Reich to blast the Red Line, run as the Reds to pop the nazis or sidestep the conflict entirely by setting out from one of the smaller stations. The cool part of this game was exploring all of the spooky shit that was dripping with environmental story telling like the surface levels and the ghost stations. Being able to fully map those out at your own pace would be legit.
