Ehhhh. Rey without the Palpatine backstory is just a random force-sensitive scav who lucks into getting involved with the fate of the galaxy. Poe Dameron is just a very standard cocky flyboy space jockey, and Finn could have been interesting if he was actually struggling against his programming as a stormtrooper, but it turns out he was just a janitor all along and had no actual mental programming to overcome.
