I agree, I don't think it should have extra challenge either. I'd like the game to evolve horizontally instead of vertically if that makes sense. More things to use Tapes on, obstacles or shortcuts that use up Stamina if you vault through them, more enemy variety but not necessarily harder/faster, just different. Maybe one floor/card floor could be a bonus round where there's no machines and you have to exit a maze on a time limit and get a permanent buff if you do. Keeping it comfy but not monotonous.
