I'd say metroidvania indies taking airdashes from other indie platformers (COUGH CELESTE).
It triggered FPS indies like Ultrakill to build around it, which then had Doom Eternal adopt it, then it made its way back with Metroid Dread practically requiring muh air dashes and parries.
