Combat is pretty important in FFs and FF8 encourages you to avoid combat and when you do engage in combat, you just stand there and draw spells. A game shouldn't encourage the player not to play the game. And unlike in other games, you don't even use the spells, you just spam limit breaks. It'd feel twisted to call it a good game, when clearly the combat/draw/stat system has a flawed design philosophy. It's just a coincidence that some people happen to like the way it's broken.
But FF8 has a cool atmosphere and the best music of the series. That's why people should like it.
