The fact that many games that were released back then are still played today and have never been defeated, whether by an imitator or someone trying to "evolve" them, speaks the loudest.
New games are so shit that people would rather devote time and resources to bringing up the older games to modern standards. That, to me, signifies that we peaked 20-30 years ago.
