Sony was going to do the exact same thing as Microcock.
Do you remember this shit from the early 10s, where you needed to "activate" your copy of the game with a code, and if you had a used copy it cost like $10? Motherfucking Sony were the first ones to do it, SOCOM and Uncharted 3 being the big games from them. EA, Ubisoft, etc. were simply copying them because they also wanted to punish used games consumers. Then those publishers took it a step further and petitioned all three console makers to implement this exact same system right on the discs. Nintendo obviously said no (which is just one more reason why EA dropped the Wii U), but Sony and Microcock were okay with it.
Literally the only thing that stopped this was the Xbone conference, and literally the only thing that saved Sony from the exact same embarrassment and brand destruction was the fact that their conference wasn't until the next day.
Sony created all of this stupid bullshit themselves, and yet they're the only ones who didn't suffer from the consequences.
