The long wait probably over-hyped people's expections that the weird route would have tons of differences early.
I'm guessing we won't see the narrative completely shifting until chapter 5 onwards, and everything before that is just planting the seeds if you will. It sucks but it makes sense considering how difficult it would be to make two, radically different routes from chapter 2 onwards.
