My nephew knows Pokemon exists, but can't be arsed to check it out because the new games look so ass and are full of dialogue-heavy cutscenes, compared to stuff like Fortnite, where you get some reasonably nice graphics and get thrown into the gameplay right away.
The Pokemon Company's biggest mistake is underestimating the ability of the games to pull in new fans. They have this huge empire of merchandise and card games, but fail to understand that THE unequivocal entry point into Pokemon are the games. Realistically, the Pokemon games should have hundreds of millions in budget and have the visual fidelity of Genshin Impact / Pokken at the minimum, as well as being more open world like the new Zeldas.
