it's a combination of fast movement and bad netcode you have to absolutely be on adderall to play. realistic details also mean a fuckload of visual clutter, i have been domed many times in 2042 and 6 by people who were literally right in front of me because i thought they were a rock, trash bag, or a dead body and not a live player. this never happened in earlier games, because it was easy to tell both teams apart and even though players had camouflage that made them harder to track, it was still very obvious that you are looking at a player and not some random fluff on the ground because there just wasn't that much fluff on the ground and the human sniper prone on the floor was more obviously a human.
if the maps were cleaner and there weren't 99999 sightlines into every possible engagement zone forcing you to look in every possible direction at once it would be fine i think.
