Because some yank AR15 manufacturer #5312 tried to sue DICE already 15 years ago for using "their weapons", and they lost.

The judge stated very clearly:
You cannot "copyright" a visual likeness of a common tool like a gun. Especially a type that has dozens of manufacturers, who all exploit the already expired patent (AR15).
You can only license the brand.

Solution to game devs: do visual, virtual copies, but don't mention the brands.
You can use MILITARY DESIGNATIONS just fine. This includes names like M16A2, M4A1, Stg58, MP5, AK74, Type-56, P08... etc.

Also, in case of Soviet weapons, there literally was no "copyrights" nor "licensing" whatsoever, because of Communism.

All that said and done, some idiotic morons still started over-correcting and avoiding IRL guns, vehicles and other gear, out of the Amerimutt law-suit fear mongering.
