There is a mix of saturation (Call of Duty every year, Fifa, etc) and stagnation (too many hero shooters) and people will eventually want a different genre, but normies are extremely driven towards competition. Given that gaming is now extremely mainstream, competition will be the absolute most popular thing in gaming until the normies eventually move on to another form of media.

You can't forecast that well just from sudden negative feedback, shifts like this require so many people to agree for something to move, which generally happens slowly. You would need to see sharp declines in data on video game charts, Statista or the like to properly forecast a market trend like a majority swing from PvP to PvE single player gamer preferences.
