FALD isn't even the best way to handle the glow problem anymore.
Iirc it's TLC which was experimenting with multi-layer LCD panels using a color screen with one or two additional black and white screens behind it to serve as 'local dimming' at the damned pixel level.
They still need a VERY strong backlight to get good peak brightness though, and all that absorbed light in the back black-and-white panel layers turns into heat which has to go somewhere. That's the problem which still needs a solution. If they can crack that one, then both MicroLED and OLED will basically find themselves 100% superfluous.
