No kindred that survived centuries is going to risk its eternity by being the mercenary/delivery boy of a failed Camarilla state.

Then why make us play as an elder at all? If you want the PC to be a slave to the other NPCs, to fear the consequences of their actions and the other characters, you don't make him a supernatural 500yo being that has seen more conflict and intrigue than any alive soldier or spy.
It worked in Bloodlines 1 because your character was a fledgling fool that was manipulated and used by every big player in LA (with the twist being that you may be the pet project of fucking Cain/some random Methuselah for shit and jiggles).
