Adding on to the part about the Fairy Flute, you also have an NPC in Rimuldar who informs you of the Flute's location as if it's some esoteric secret once you tell him where the girl he is waiting for is at.
The only useful "directions" I've gotten from an NPC were the ones about treasures hidden in the little secret area in the desert north of Rimuldar. If you search the shadow of the tree that's on the left side of the rocks by the pots, you find an Edged Boomerang, and, if you circle around the aforementioned rocks, you can find a pretty good chest armor just laying on the ground.
