I feel like if you were to add something to combat, maybe more interactivity to the dungeons. It doesn't have to be huge, but one thing I liked about in 2 compared to 1 is picking stuff up, whether it was rocks or monsters. It allowed for a different way to approach fights. Besides that, maybe differentiate the weapons a bit more. It was nice that the different weapon types either had different combo strings or properties to an extent, it's just a shame that the highest attack cap weapons outshone everything else later.
