Bad news then. The game is built on the idea that grinding is the main hook. Every mechanic has grinding built into its DNA. There's ways to game the system but they are tedious. As an example.
>You can upgrade weapons
>this works by breaking down items and adding them to the weapon which will increase stats which, if certain stats are met, you can upgrade it to a higher form
>But every weapon has an SP bar for how many items you can add to it, this bar replenishes by leveling up the weapon by killing enemies
>You'll quickly learn that breaking down other weapons is the best way to upgrade since they'll add multiple stats rather than individual ones
>but to break down a weapon you need to level it up a couple of times first
>this means using that weapon to kill enemies
>but weaker weapons can end up doing a single point of damage or none at all to higher level enemies
>so you either go to an early area and grind or you kill a higher level enemy with the strong weapon then before the XP balls they drop fly towards you you go to the menu, change weapons, let the weapon absorb the XP, then go back to the menu to switch to the stronger weapon
>alternatively you kill the enemy with one character and before the XP balls drop you switch to the character holding the weapon you want to upgrade
>all this just to upgrade a weapon
I think you'll find out quickly why even people who seem to like this game will also mention how they never finished it.
