An alternate experience I actually had: I tried taking this advice, spent around a year working on 2 small projects I wasn't particularily inspired by, gave up from lack of motivation. Then returned to my 'dream game' concept I thought was too much, and it's the most fun and inspired ive ever been making games. Sometimes you just gotta follow your dream despite it being the bad advice. I now have a little prototype im excited about and cant wait to flesh out.
