If ST were smart but also had the resources, they'd make a separate side-series, something like "Sonic Stories" or something like that where you played as your own OC, maybe with some DLC for canon characters featuring unique storylines and stuff.
This would allow them to keep OC's out of the main game but also expand on Sonic's universe.
