After I posted that I just remembered Huanglongmon Ruin Mode. I think in my head I remembered it more as just a recolor than it really was. You're right that I think the surprise for me is coming from new Digimon being introduced that are simply pretty normal and not meant as the big bad end-boss.

Mastemon completely slipped my mind. I also completely forgot Re: and Decode introduced those two.
So yeah, fair enough. I think the sort of mundanity of SkullSeadramon and Sharkmon in what they are and how they were showcased sort of just really caught me off guard compared to the other examples.
